Rumrunner joined the family several years back. After I moved to Kaua'i, I was sad because we had to put our old dog down. He couldn't have made the move to Hawaii (Quarantine and his advanced age). So, I stopped by the animal shelter...and there he was, overdue to be put down (too many stray dogs, not enough homes on the island). All I had to do was to get my wife...and landlord to agree. Surprisingly, the both did...and Rum has been our faithful canine companion ever since. His favorite activities are chasing crabs on the beach (he is no serious threat to the crab population!), going for long meaningful walks (preferably along the beach), swimming, lying on his back and playing dead cockroach, sleeping, and eating. We don't know Rum's breed...mostly, at 110 pounds, we call him a Sumo dog, or a purebred dog (dog on both sides for several generations!).
If you happen to be visiting the island of Kaua'i and need a doggie fix, Rum will be happy to let you pet him. He is one of the nicest dogs around. And he works cheap (for dog bones). He is also well educated. He's been through three sessions of obedience training...sub-novice twice, and novice once. He's about due to repeat the novice class...
